Wedding Details Your Guests Do and Don’t Care About

The truth is, some wedding details will make the celebration extra memorable to your family and friends. These are the crucial inclusions that they will remember and will keep looking back on when your wedding day comes into mind. On the other hand, there are other wedding details that are not that relevant to wedding guests. It’s not that these details don’t matter–because all the elements that come into play help bring your dream day to life. But when planning a wedding, it’s very common for couples to get extremely stressed about all the details. One way you can feel less overwhelmed is by 1) focusing on wedding details that really matter to you, 2) not sweating the small stuff, especially if they’re not that important to your guests. It’s not that your guests don’t care, period. Guests care about you and what matters to you, but some other wedding details are really of less importance to them. Find out what guests do and don’t care about so you can free yourself from unnecessary extra wedding planning stress.

What Guests Do Care About

(1) The Food

People love food and good food makes people happy! If you serve guests a sensational menu, rest assured that they will have only good memories of your wedding day. Your wedding menu is something you can and probably should spend extra time on. You can also take it further by asking for guests’ food intolerances and allergies and incorporate these when planning the menu. They will truly appreciate the extra effort.

(2) The Drinks

When it comes to alcohol, the right buzz will allow wedding guests to let loose and relax. So yes, guests do care about the drinks because it helps set the mood for the festivities, especially the after party! Apart from alcohol, other non-alcoholic refreshments are also memorable wedding details, especially when these match the wedding theme or location. For instance, tropical coolers are great for beach weddings.

(3) Entertainment and Activities

Since a wedding is a day-long event, guest do appreciate it if you keep them entertained throughout the day. During cocktails, you can prepare some activities for them, like a photobooth or lawn games for an outdoor wedding. Likewise, the banquet program is another opportunity to heighten spirits. You may seek out an experienced host and a groovy band for the rest of the night.

(4) Your Happiness

Lastly, as mentioned, guests really do care about your happiness. When you and your spouse are happy, the joy fills every inch of the wedding and this is something that can make the union one that they will remember forever.

What Guests Don’t Care About So Much

(1) Wedding Invitations

No doubt, wedding invitations will make your guests feel excited as they’re the first preview of your special day. However, these end up being disposed after. If you will have a wedding website, physical invitations will even be less useful. Hence, you can go for ready-made templates online that fit your theme instead of stressing too much on the intricate details of your wedding invitation.

(2) Wedding Linens

Usually, what matters is the overall look of your wedding and how all the decorations come together–that’s what people remember. But the specific color or texture of table linens is detail that guests will not remember. So if, for example, your wedding venue package only provides plain white table linens and sourcing a different color is challenging or not easy on the budget, you can let this one go.

(3) Cutlery and Plates

Just like the linens, cutlery and plates are not that memorable for wedding guests. By the time of the banquet, your guests will pay more attention to the feast you prepared for them, not the cutlery or the plates they are using.  The charger may be a little more memorable, so you can consider paying more attention to this detail. But plain white plates are fine and simple utensils should be fine. However, the same rule applies: look at the wedding as a whole and see if the cutlery you already have helps paint the ideal picture you have in mind.

(4) General Wedding Favors

When wedding favors are not personal or not that useful, they oftentimes get left behind. So if you’re going to have giveaways, either really take time and effort to ensure they’re items you know your guests will take home and use. Otherwise, you can just omit general wedding giveaways altogether.

(5) Your Wedding Shoes

Your guests will not see your shoes, so if you want to spend more time choosing the perfect pair for your wedding day, do it for YOU. You can definitely look for a pair that’s comfortable over an extra glamorous or expensive one. You can even rent shoes instead of buying a heels that you feel like you’ll only wear once.

(6) The Wedding Cake

Yes, a pretty wedding cake will catch attention, but guests usually remember the dessert spread more than the wedding cake. Some couple also forget to serve the wedding cake since the banquet program is usually filled with many activities and the dessert table is more than enough to get everyone’s sweet fill. A simple cake or even a single tier cake is good enough as long as it follows your wedding theme.
