10 Outdoor Engagement Spots in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is not the most photo session-friendly place especially if you want to incorporate natural light and the outdoors to your photos. There are a lot of hidden gems around though that are not known to the general public. We’ve rounded up a handful that you can consider for your next photo session. Just be sure to bring some mosquito repellent and water to keep you hydrated especially during the summer months!

 

1. Victoria Peak Garden, The Peak

What to expect: 

  • European-style garden
  • Winding trails through lush forests
  • Stunning views overlooking the entire city
  • Easy car park access

How to get there:

Best to drive or catch a cab, if not:
Bus: 15, 15B / Minibus: 1 / Peak Tram
Get off at the Peak Tower and then catch a cab or walk 30 minutes (uphill) along Mount Austin Road

 

2. Sai Wan Pier, Western District

What to expect: 

  • Famous “Instagram pier” of Hong Kong
  • Urban and industrial environment
  • Unobstructed view of the Kowloon harbourfront
  • Amazing sunsets on a clear day

How to get there:

Tram: Shek Tong Tsui Terminus
Get off at Shek Tong Tsui and walk towards the pier (5-10 minutes)

 

3. Hong Kong University Main Campus, Pok Fu Lam

What to expect: 

  • Baroque-style Main Building
  • Beautiful staircases and red brick walls
  • Open to public anytime

How to get there:

Bus: 7, 23, 40, 40M / MTR: HKU Station

 

4. Kowloon Park, Tsim Sha Tsui

What to expect: 

  • One of the biggest public parks in Hong Kong
  • Maze gardens and stone wall trees amid skyscrapers
  • Easy access by MTR

How to get there:

MTR: Tsim Sha Tsui exit A1

 

5. Shing Mun Reservoir, Tsuen Wan

What to expect: 

  • Tall paperbark trees (immersed in water during rainy season)
  • Reservoir lake
  • Wild monkeys

6. Wetland Park, Tin Shui Wai

What to expect: 

  • Winding wooden bridges
  • Sloped grasslands and mini maze right outside the park
  • Seldom busy with tourists
  • Easy car park access

How to get there:

MTR & Lightrail: Off at West Rail Tin Shui Wai Station, change to Lightrail 705 to Tin Shau Station (via tunnel) or Wetland Park Station (via footbridge) to the Park

 

7. Nam Sang Wai, Yuen Long

What to expect: 

  • Wild grassy fields
  • Good for picnic
  • Easy car park access

How to get there:

West Rail Yuen Long Station Exit G2, take bus 76K to Hung Mo Kiu, then walk to Nam Sang Wai Road
Or walk 15 minutes from Yuen Long Station and take small wooden ferry to cross the river

 

8. Murray House, Stanley

What to expect: 

  • Victorian-era building
  • Unique waterfront location
  • Bridal dressing suite available for free upon appointment

Bus: 6, 6A, 6X, 66, 260 (from Central)
Minibus: 40 (from Causeway Bay)

 

9. Lions Nature Education Centre, Sai Kung

What to expect: 

  • Gardens, rows of trees, forest trails
  • Variety of spots in one location
  • Easy car park access

How to get there:

Bus: 92 / Minibus: 1, 1A, 12, 101M
Get off at Pak Kong bus stop then 5 minute walk

 

10. Lake Egret Nature Park, Tai Po

What to expect: 

  • Picturesque boating lake setting
  • Row boat available on the weekends from 1pm to 7pm
  • Easy car park access
