10 Social Media Mistakes You Don’t Want to Make

In this day and age of social media, we still must not forget to have courtesy for others. So, it’s only right that for weddings, we are aware of what we should not do when it comes to social media. Following this basic tenet: to be polite and mindful of our actions towards others, we put together some things you should NOT do or post in social media. Let’s get to it!

(1) Don’t post your engagement without letting your family know first.

Your family will not be pleased if you announce your engagement to everyone else without first letting them know. They are your dearest and nearest, so do go to them first before letting the news out digitally.

(2) Don’t post all the personal details about your ring.

For sure, everyone is absolutely excited about your engagement, and we’re certain all your girl friends will want to see your ring. There’s no harm is sharing it and posting about it. But, you should leave all the personal details out of your post–no need to talk about the size, perhaps the value, etc. Let that stay between you and your fiancé.

(3) Don’t forego formal invitations.

Despite living in a digital world, you still must not forego the formal invitations. It’s the formal and proper way to invite your guests, especially your family. Sure, Save-the-Date cards can be sent online, but do still send out formal invitations. If you’re lacking inspiration, then maybe this roundup of red invitations will turn your mood around.

(4) Don’t vent about wedding stress on social media.

If you’re stressed, tired, and feeling the weight of wedding planning on your shoulders, do not vent on social media. If you have issued with any of your vendors, speak to them about it and solve it offline. Venting online will just exacerbate the situation. Likewise, if you’re stressed, don’t rant online. What are bridesmaids for? Share your frustrations instead with them so they can help you out.

(5) Don’t skip on sharing positive experiences that might help others.

We highly recommend helping other brides out too. So, if you have any positive experiences, good reviews, or recommendations that you think other brides-to-be can benefit from, don’t miss out on sharing them! If you want, you can even join a community to reach more brides who might be in need of help.

(6) Don’t forget to remind guests about social media guidelines.

If you’re a very particular bride, or even if you just want some order in the way your wedding is experienced and shared offline and online, then don’t forget to tell your guests about your social media guidelines. For example, some brides prefer an unplugged ceremony; guests are asked to save the photo taking until the recessional march. Don’t forget to remind guests about your wedding hashtag, too!

(7) Don’t overshare.

Your wedding planning journey is a personal one and is best shared with those dear to you. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with sharing your journey online, but don’t overshare. Save some details–the more personal or more intimate ones–for you and your husband-to-be, your family, or for you and your bridesmaids. After all, they’re the ones who are really behind you every step of the way.

(8) Don’t reveal too many BTS footage.

Sharing behind-the-scenes photos and videos is a great way to get everyone excited. But don’t reveal too much during your preparations and portrait session. Wouldn’t it be way better to just surprise everyone when you step on the aisle instead?

(9) Don’t post embarrassing drunk photos from the after party.

What happens in your after party should stay at the after party. To save your guests from embarrassment, remind everyone not to post photos of inebriated friends online. They will not be happy if they wake up to their unflattering photos online.

(10) Don’t spend your wedding on your phone.

Lastly, don’t be too concerned about posting everything about your wedding day real time. Instead, savor every moment of your wedding. Don’t spend your wedding on your phone! That re-gram can wait, so can your post about your bridal look. Your wedding day is just going to last for a few hours. Be fully present on this very special occasion.
